When I replaced the dimmer switch on my 1996 850 a few years ago, I was told either here or by the dealer that the dimmer is a weak point and that I should not habitually drive with the headlights on. On the 1996, there's a setting for daytime driving lights, which we use for safety, but we try to remember to turn the headlights (meaning "with the dashboard lights") off except at night. So far, so good.
