I've experienced this problem as well from time to time. What I discovered was that while the auto trans selector was fully in park, the click-stop that you must pull in before moving it out of park, had not dropped down all the way. When I pulled it down, then I could remove the key.

The solution was to carefully lube this piece of plastic with silicone spray or grease. If using spray, spray a rag and then wipe the plastic tab. You only need a light coat.
