This is usually the case. I actual did it myself with instruction from people on the board and good manual. It is time consuming but very doable. I even bought a vacuum pump for $50.00 and evacuated and filled myself. Total cost $200.00(dryer and evaporator, o rings, refrigerant) plus vacuum pump.
