Do two things before you bring it to a shop. With the key in the on position, but the engine off, rapidly move the shift lever from R to L and back again about 20 times. This should temporarily clean off the contacts inside the PNP switch box.
Also, go to the 700/700 FAQs and look up OBD (Onboard Diagnostic Codes) and how to read them yourself. It is so simple and then you will know what the real problem is. http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineOBDCodes.htm
