Master or slave clutch cylinder most likely to fail? 850 1996

At least your car is still driveable. My old VW bug lost the cable and I would put it into 1st, crank the starter to get the car moving, then shift gears without a clutch. The only problem was traffic lights, where I had to turn the engine off to get it into 1st.
If there is no hydraulic leak, then the linkage fell apart.
