Hmm, my '95 operates differently. Perhaps it's because of the manual transmission. TRACS is off until the switch is depressed (illuminating the light in the switch). That's the only indication, besides the "MRRRR" noise when the tire spins. The light in the instrument cluster is never illuminated.

I leave it turned off unless I know I need it. Too many times I've stalled while pedalling the throttle because the brakes are also trying to slow the spinning wheels.
