Depending on where you live, figure $2500-3500 for a re-built tranny and rear main seal(why not?).
What are the symptoms of your failing tranny? Did a reputable Volvo shop do the diagnosis? Did you get a second opinion? Are there any other pending drivability problems?
Have you looked at the 03-05 V70s?
