My 2001 V70 has been having intermittent starting issues for about a week now. When I turn the key, the warning light comes on and the message "START PREVENTED TRY AGAIN" is displayed. Has anyone gone through troubleshooting this problem before? Both my keys exhibit the same problem so I believe it has to do with the immobilizer system on the car side.
I took apart the steering column shroud and found that the immobilization system was made by Delphi Automotive Systems.
I fount the following on Delphi’s website:
The system works by using “an electronic code transmitted from a transponder located in the vehicle's ignition key to allow or disallow the engine management system to start the vehicle. An electronically coded signal is sent by the transponder to a coil located near the ignition when the correct code is received to allow vehicle start-up.” In my case NOT start-up.
I think either the “coil located near the ignition” which has some fancy crypto electronics on it is faulty or the wiring somewhere is playing tricks on me.
If anyone has any insight or de-bug ideas, I sure would appreciate hearing from you.
P.S. Does anyone know what the “coil located near the ignition” which has some fancy crypto electronics on it costs?
