A/C Quick connect tool use, between drier and evaporator 850

I've inserted the tool around the line and into the coupling as far as the tool can insert; at the same time I'm using a vice grip to try and wiggle the male end out. Does this seem right?

I'm not hearing a clicking noise - the drier end spins freely in the quick connect fitting.
