Pull and inspect the spark plugs, they will tell you a lot. If they are fairly clean, then the engine is probably going to pass smog. Your concerns about passing smog are valid, that could be why it sat in the driveway.
Have a GOOD Volvo guy check it out. It might need an new O2 sensor. Do not disconnect the battery to clear codes, that will screw up the computer and you will fail the test.
You need to go through the A and B boxes, looking at all of the codes. Delete them all, go for a test drive, and see which ones come back. The 700/900FAQs tell you how to read the codes.
As for the window switches for the rear windows, it might not be the switch but a loose plug inside the console. Or it could be a bad ground.
If the seat back doesn't adjust, it is just a loose cable. One of the B boxes is for the seats, check the codes.
