How often should you change the oil? 850 1996

I think if I lived in Arizona, 5,000 would be fine. But up here in the Northern US, you get alot of condensation in the engine because of the temp swings and I think that builds up in the oil. I wonder where Volvo ever came up with 10K for normal oil anyway. I have always done 3K....oil changes are what... 10 minutes and 20 bucks? I use the magnetic drain plugs too.....
