The tap is a different noise than I'm familiar with, usually it's a whine, but I do know that on the 850:
The steering should not be held in the 'all the way' position for more than a second or two. It strains the components and should be avoided. Also there are steering stops that need lubrication. They are pretty easy to find and easy to lube. Check the power steering level and condition. Aside from that, try to pinpoint the noise and see if there are suspension parts tapping together, loose or creaking.
