The Haynes manual recommends an 80,000 mile interval with 40,000 for severe service. And I thought that the 105,000 mile spec was something about Volvo not wanting to change timing belts in California.
For the price of the belt, tensioner, idler, and most of a day figuring out how it all comes apart, not worrying about a bunch of bent valves was worth it. Next time (in 75,000 miles) I'll change the water pump too. Maintenence is cheap. Repairs are expensive.
Now if I could just find where they hid the fuel filter...
