Our 2001 T5 has developed a miss at idle. It does not do it all the time. It does seem to be more prevalent after a hot start or at red lights. Sometimes it does it when it is first started (cold), but most of the time it is after it is hot. Some days it won't do it at all. It does seem to be happening more frequent or the wife is reminding me more.
The RPM at idle is around 950 and is pretty steady. It will go away above about 1100 RPM. You feel it mostly in the steering wheel and can hear it. It is not a steady or consistent miss. Otherwise, the car runs great. No codes or CEL. It seems to be worse when the AC is on, but that could be due to the extra load the AC puts on the engine. It may be no different, but just sound/feel worse.
When it is in the garage and is missing, you can notice the headlights getting dimmer/brighter with the miss. My wife has also commented that after parking the car, the cooling fan will be running sometimes an hour after being turned off. Not continuously for an hour, but come back on. I have not been around when this happens to check and see if hot air is coming off the radiator. Just trying to mention anything that might be a clue to the problem.
The car has had the ETC(throttle control) replaced and it has had the new ECM program installed. I have searched the archives, but can't seem to find anything that could be the cause. It has 120K miles on it. Hopefully the wisdom of this board will keep me out of the dealership.
Thanks for your input in advance!
Keith
