Hi all, I'm new to Volvo ownership, having just bought a '84 850 Turbo wagon with 104K on it. The car is burgundy in color and has a clear coat. Most of the scratches in the finish are in the clear coat. I was successful on my first attempt of scratch removal by wet sanding the scratch with 2000 grit paper on a foam block, them polishing with a mild compound. The next spot I attacked, I got completely different results. I switched to 1500 grit for a little faster cut, still wet sanding with a foam block and went through the clear coat and into the color. The spot is oval shaped, about 2" long and 1" high. It looks to me like a ding repair was done and the filler was not completely blocked down before painting. I don't want to proceed any further with sanding if I'm going to have to repaint the car! BTW, does Volvo sell aerosol touch up paint and is it any good or am I on the hook to fire up the compressor and the HVLP gun next spring to repaint the door panel?
