Hey thanks for sharing your experience.

I am in two minds as to whether or not I should just go buy a new fan/blower/cage too.

Do you think if I were to be cheap and just buy the motor to intall (without the fan cage, that should do the trick? Sounds like a silly question I know but I was thinking if it's one of those issues where it's a combination of the fan cage and motor causing the squeal and not just the motor alone.
