2000 s80 brake lights

First you need to check the voltage at the battery, what the alternator is outputting. It should not exceed 14.7 volts. If it is 15V or more, the alternator will slowly cook all of your wiring.

I do not know where the voltage regulator is on the S80, but it should be on the backend of the alternator. Not a cheap part and best checked at an Autozone or Pepboys.
