It's impossible to tell with the info. you have given. More importantly, does the car feel or drive funny? Anything out of the ordinary that you notice? Being a '96 MY 850, unless you have a scan tool, you can't even pull up the codes that are causing your check engine light to come on. You really have no choice but to bring it to someone that has a scan tool that can read the code(s) that is set - be it the dealer or an indie mechanic.
