Bryan, here is a method I have been using for a number of years.
After installing new pads you need to season them, just like a good wine. On a road that does not have much traffic bring the car up to approx 40 miles per hour and slowly bring it to stop. Sit for about 30 secs without your foot on the brake then bring the car back to 40 miles per hour and slowly bring it to a stop again. You need to do this about 5 or 6 times. It seasons the pads after this process you can go back to your normal driving habits. I also found that the pads last longer and I have never had a warped rotor. This was the process that was included in my first set of carbon pads. It is also a process that racers use to condition their pads and rotors. Works well for me.
