Programming keyless entry replacement transmitter V70-XC70 2000

I am seeking the definitive answer for the means of programming a replacement keyless transmitter. I've found one on the Internet and it appears to be identical to my V70's original. The original transmitter has a cracked case and no amount of epoxy wants to hold it together for more than a few months. (The original transmitter's operation is intermittent, but the button-push success rate is fairly high---but for how long?)
