I've had the intermittent starting problem where, when I turn the key, the starter sometimes won't crank (but evertything else is lit) . Some of the other threads indicated that it could be a loose wire on the starter. Long stort short, I tightened the starter connections but I overtightened the one with the braided wire from the solinoid to the starter (almost to a point of stripping the threads). I put everything together but when I connect the battery, the starter now engages without a key in ignition. Did I short my starter or is there another thing I should look at before buying a new starter?
Many thanks,
Ed
