I just replaced my MAF sensor on my 93 850. I also have 00 V70 that hasn't had the problem. I found the sensor much cheaper through volvoparts.com. Just make sure you get the right one.

As far as being disconnected it will probably rough much rougher but shouldn't "ruin" your engine. Be sure to disconnect the negative on battery before replacing. It is a simple job.
