My understanding is that the problem is usually intermittent and related to hairline cracks/dry solder joints rather than failure of any single component.

If I had a "dead" module and were willing to replace it anyway, I'd happily spend an afternoon at the soldering station to try repairing it.

(That may not be so far away... for the first time last month, I saw the ABS/TRACS light come on for a day)
