My wife's 2003 XC has 70K miles on it. The weather has turned colder and when the engine is cold and started all sounds normal (at idle). As you apply throttle to pull away you hear a chatter(??)sound that can be made louder or quieter with the amount of throttle being applied. It occurs only under load/accelerating. As soon as you reduce throttle or coast... no noise. . As the engine warms up the noise becomes less audible. With the engine fully warmed up the car sounds normal and the noise can't be created.
Any help is appreciated , as to what it might be and where to look.
If I had to guess at this time it sounds like and air valve chatter??? maybe from the drivers side of the engine???
Thx. Art
