Sounds to me like you are missing the plastic insert that connects the arm to the blade assembly. This would cause it to slip down and also not be solidly connected, causing poor wiping. The plastic insert is easily broken when changing blades. (It happened to me.)

You shouldn't need longer wipers.

Anybody knows where to get that little plastic clip, please post.
