Not necessary. Pulled engine from my '96 without any special tools. A load leveler (http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_19979_19979) might be handy because you have to pull it out at a fairly high angle.

You might end up bending the accessories mounting plate, as I did, but its soft and pounds back into place nicely.
