It looks like there is no "Volvo" answer to this one. Perhaps a locksmith would have an idea. As for the door, it all comes apart in sequence, as you said, starting with the door open. The inner door panel clips are sealed in the door stop.
The Volvo bug here is that the door latches aren't reliable (according to posts I've seen) and the latches can only be serviced if they are working: catch 22.
Seems like a locksmith would have a tool that could slide down next to the the glass and pull the latch.
On Bay 13 there is a latch repair with lots of photos; from this you can get an idea where things are. Also you could open up the passenger side to see what connects to what, then use a wire hanger to go down in the stuck one.
Or write to someone in prison for advice? ;)
