When the outside temp gets below 45F or so, the compressor is not supposed to turn on unless you set the dial to deffrost.
The normal cycle for the compressor pressure is off below 20lbs or so. I think mine cycled between 25-45lbs.
I overfilled mine once when it was cold, drove 850 miles to a warmer climate the same day. Next morning, the AC made a terrible racket; after parking in the sun for 2 hours I restarted the car and then something blew! with a terrible bang! It looked like antifreeze dripping under the engine, it was the pressure valve for the AC. The AC was good for the home trip, a lot of stored up PAG oil came out.
