heating system help S70 2000

Hope everyone's holiday was good.
Where to begin? Last winter Klaus C educated me deeply on my 850 heating system and I was able to repair it reasonably quickly(thanks Klaus), the FWD/AWD models were new to me then. We have since aquired a 2000 S70 also, darn Ford lol. What I need to know first of all is how similar the heating system is from the '93 850 to the 2000 S70 before I tear into an immaculate interior.
The problem is that the blower isn't turning on, but no flashing angry little lights. This puzzles me as I expect the ECC to be finding fault somewhere. All the dampers appear to be working so I was going to "clean" the temp sensors on both sides of the car and start there. The more I think about it though, the more puzzled I become by no flashing angry little lights and afraid that the system is very different from the 850. So rather then begin tearing up the interior in any way I would turn here since I have some time(that's rare) to get on and ask my fellow Volvo addicts.
One other quick question - If the systems are very similar, would Volvo have kept the blower motor the same part between the models. My 850 has a brandy new one and isn't going anywhere for a long time(unless to the scrap yard).

Warmest wishes to all for the coming new year.
