Unless you hit the pad with an axe, it is very difficult to break it. The thermostat which is shoved into the heater grid with a connector can be dislodged with a well placed knee near the rear end of the seat cushion.

If the thermostat breaks, the heater pad will not work.

Same is true if the plug to the thermostat comes undone by a well placed foot under the front seat :)

Raise the seat as far as possible, then move it forward. Look under the seat cushion from the rear to see the wires.
