I think the US car with its emissions equipment is easily registered in Canada but I wouldn't be sure about a RH drive unit from the UK.

The resale will be better for a LH drive if you will be back on this side of the Atlantic the next time you anticipate trading.

Cars typically cost more in Europe.

I don't think your 850 will sell readily in UK but may sell somewhere else in Europe {where they drive on the correct side of road : ) }.

You should check with the authorities in Ireland to be sure a LH drive is okay in the emigration status you will be there under (military is cool I would think, but civilian work visa may not be).

You may want to consider a European delivery of your new S60 timed with selling your 850 here. You would only pay for shipping one way (back from Europe, the Volvo paid shipping would likely get it to UK only at their expense) if that matters.
