ABS /XC70/part number? V70-XC70

Klaus,
You replied awhile back about ABS module problem on wife`s XC. Can the ABS module be removed without affecting the "normal" braking system? I suspect the answer is "yes". I asked my local indie about this & his response was "no" but maybe it`s matter of legality here.
Also I may be able to get a module from PamsAuto from a salvage 03XC but they need to know the part # on our vehicle. Can I get this without taking the current module out?
I`d like to be able to bypass local dealer for a fix on this problem. They want $1500CDN just for the part.
