I hate to say this, but the V70 is nothing but a better designed 850, the electricals and engine are the same.

You shouldn't have any dash lights when the headlight switch is off, that is normal. If you mean that when you put the key in pos II (on) there are no idiot lights, that is a different story.

The power to the starter and ignition switch goes through the starter. Look for a loose connection there. Be careful, the wires are always live!
