Hi all, first i just want to say its been real informative reading the posts. I'm looking for some upgrades that would improve the performance and handling of my 1995 850 GLT, but I am really clueless where to begin. I have been checking out a website from Eastern Aerospace (http://www.easternaerospace.com/)and they have a lot of engine performance upgrades, while I've heard the IDP has some really nice handling upgrades.
Now i would love to get some more power out of the car and hopefully a 0-60 that would be more around the 7 range. I've heard of replacing teh ECU, chipping (heard that's really bad though), and some other things that Eastern Aerospace recommends for more power (does anyone know if they're reliable? The main thing is, how does these performance upgrades hurt the car? The car has 65k miles on it (unfortunatly something went completely wrong 5k miles ago and the whole lower engine block was replaced). I'm hoping to keep this car until 200k miles or so, so i dont' want to do anything that will hurt the engine, but at the same time i would love better acceleration.
On to handling, I would love to get my car handling like my father's new BMW 5 with sports package. I don't think i can get that exactly :) but i would like to improve the ride. I'm not looking for something soft and plushy (that'll just make me sick), i'm looking for a stiff, sporty ride but getting rid of the rattles and harshness that i experience now.
Now here's teh real problem, being a college student the funds are somewhat limited, so what i would really like is some real nice, inexpensive upgrades (probably an oxie-moron). Thank you so much for anything you can help me with, I appreciate all the advice and recommendations you all can help me with. Thanks again,
Chris
