The battery light only comes on when the alternator puts out less than 12V, if the light came on while the engine was near stall speed, don't blame the alternator.

I doubt electrics are the root cause of the tranny problems. The next time you stop and the rpms fall below 900, shift to N and see if things get better. You might just have a sticky solenoid in the tranny.
