The fuel filter connections are of the quick release type. The fittings do indeed just get pushed away from the filter to release it from the fuel lines.
The mention of the 17mm wrench is not to turn a bolt but to help you push the connectors apart.
Keep a shop cloth handy to catch a few dribbles of gasoline. A small soup can is mentioned by others, but not that much comes out.
The new filter has a directional arrow embossed on it, pointing toward the front of the car.
Clean off the undercoating completly before trying to move the pipe fittings. Loosen the torx screw first, but don't remove it. It sometimes helps to let the bracket keep the filter snug as you loosen the releases.
