Years ago a guy posted his story about evaluating Oil/Screen filters. His situation was much different than most of us, but the story might help. This guy was responsible for the maintenance of a hugh fleet of Construction equipment. It included fleets of cars, trucks (big and little), Heavy Equip., and even airplains. The cost for replacing airfilters was is the hundreds of thousand and he was study ways to reduce this cost. He ran in the field testing using K&N and Amsoil (and other types) of filters. These manufactures helped in the study. The oil was sampled. He really wanted these filters to work as the savings would be incrediable. His conclusion was that the oil/screen filters failed and the paper filters worked best. There was way too much silicone in the oil for the oil/screen filters...even in the airplane. He was disappointed as he was counting on saving alot of money.
An everyday car may not have these same problems. Remember he was working in contruction with alot dirty and dust in the air.
That story was enough for me to have some reservations about using these type of filters.
