Brad, I just had the same problem with my SC-816 CD/Tape/Stereo. Go to volvospeed.com/ and click on Volvo then click "repairs and maintenance" then on "radio repairs". There are instructions on how to reset the microswitch in the SC-816, however I'm not sure this will work with yours.

The microswitch in my unit actually fell apart when I reset it so I took it to a local electronics repair shop and the fixed it for about $50. Haven't had any problems since (knock on wood!).
