Sounds like the plug wire might not have seated properly when you changed them. Why did you not look up the fault before erasing it?
Yes, whenever you erase codes, the computer has to go through a lengthy drive cycle. That is why codes should not be erased but diagnosed and fixed. If the cumputer turns the fault off, then it does not effect the drive cycle.
If the stored code was the P0301, without the CEL on, that is good. It means that the #1 plug is working again and a couple of more starts the pending/stored code will be erased by the computer.
