I have yet to rip into one of these stereos BUT I am very much into retrofitting incadesent bulbs with LED's. Since advances in technology have allowed white and blue LED's to come to life there is new hope for relief of these problems. These new LED's in a 3 or 5mm package cost around $12.00 each but have nearly a 10 year continous duty life. (Reds, yellows and some greens usually run $.03 each.) They are durable and generate almost no heat. I work in an electronic manufacturing facility as an engineer and have replaced many bulbs with LED's to save money and elliminate the need to replace burnt bulbs. I am not sure if it would be cost effective or not to consider replacement with LED's but if anyone is interested I would help in any way possible. If someone can nab me a radio with all dead bulbs I could attempt the retrofit and of course post the results. Even better, if enough people are interested I can buy the LEDs in bulk and save a few bucks on each piece. Time allowing I could also retrofit the head units with the LEDs for a minimal cost.
