According the owners manual it needs to be cleaned every 1000 miles

with a light weight oil. I use WD40 or Marvel Mystery oil on my antenna

the Volvo dealership use’s a oil similar to WD40.

Sense I’ve been cleaning mine regularly, I haven’t had any problems.

Even when I go through a car wash when it's 5 degrees out.
