"The cable is hidden its entire length. Even in the trunk area it is in the fender behind the 'felt' cover. I don't think any kind of jarring with luggage would cause it to loosen."
I agree. I just took a look in the trunk and everything is neat and tidy and tucked away. No visible cabling whatsoever.
I'll post back when I get results from the dealership.
