"speedy" or "hf65" came to my rescue. He is parting a 1998 and had a left front speaker to give me. Along with a seat switch and rear courtesy light.
Well, what a shock! The left and right door speakers have different part numbers! The brackets are just a little different so they cannot be swapped.
Never say never to me. I took my dead speaker and learned how to take the bracket off without breaking things:
remove the foam ring. I started with a small section using a thumb nail, then pulled it off carefully and hung it up out of the way.
Some of the glue from the foam ring seeped between the bracket and speaker. PBBlaster will soften up glue, and with the straw, gets in the tiny slot around the entire bracket.
Then slide the bracket off.
Do the above to the other speaker in 1/2 the time, and put the good speaker on the right door bracket with the connector in the proper place.
I now have a working passenger front speaker!!!
Thank you Humberto,
Klaus
