I also found my '95 850 loud, and there is some vibration from the engine, I feel this is after driving an Olds for 6 (damned) years. But this is very minor considering how well and tight the car stays on the road and how predictable its responce. It is very comfortable and the design/workmanship are first class. It is relatively easy to service at home (well, so far at least).

I do not see the 850 as a performance car, for me it is a nice family sedan, I am not driving it at 3 digits and do not race my neighbours.

Charlie, if you have another, better car in mind, then get rid of your Volvo and buy what you like. You'll make somebody (like me) a happy used Volvo owner.
