Yes, but you would need a VADIS Volvo scanner to get it. The miles are no longer kept in the instrument panel, so they should be accurate. If the ECM was replaced from a younger car, you would have no way of knowing.
88K miles seems pretty slim for a 1998 with a weak clutch, unless there is a lot of water in the slave cylinder. And how many owners?
You could check the engine number on the timing cover decal against the one on the right side of the engine, you might neeed a mirror to see it. An engine swap would make sense with the timing belt sticker being crossed off. In that case, all bets are off as to mileage.
