Larry,

I have a 96 with the SC-815 and according to the owner's manual, the ASC is a function which automatically adjusts the volume level of the audio system according to driving speed. To deactivate ASC depress the CD button until ASC is no longer displayed. To activate ASC depress the CD button until ASC is displayed (approx. 2 seconds). It doesn't mention the PROG button in this process. Hope this helps.
