On cold days my temp gauge would not get above the 4 o'clock position. I changed my coolant (Volvo Type C, 50/50 mix w/distilled water) and thermostat 2 weeks ago. I instantly noticed the temp gauge would now go to the 3 o'clock position and do so much quicker. This morning was 12 deg in CT and the car only takes about 4 minutes to blow warm air. The thermostat is easy to remove. I used a 1/4" drive T-40 socket with a 4" extension.

Thermostat kit, p/n 271664-5 $14.36

Coolant, type C, p/n 9434699-6 $14.36

1 gal distilled H2O, $.66 @ Walmart
