David,

I have had similar problems occationally for a year now (in cold and moist weather). Code 1-2-2 on A1, meaning bad connections in the solenoid S1 (shifting from gear 1 to 2). Will go into 'limp home' mode = 4 th gear on, that's why it is sluggish. Limp home and the lights will come on for other reasons too. Works OK after 5 ignition key switches to position II (check enginge light left on) or reseting with the fault tool.
