The dealer can reset the "service" light to re-engage at 5k miles (oil change interval) or 12k miles (annual service estimate) when you take it in to them. The IPD tool, as I understand it will only reset to 5k and i nothing but a plug-in with diodes that sends a signal to the main cpu to reset. I get mine set for 12k, and change my own oil...buy only mann brand or Volvo genuine filters...Purolator Gold if you absolutely can't find the ral thing.
