There is absolutely NO reason to rebuild the engine in this car. Furthermore, I doubt that the rear main seal on a 6 yr old car would be leaking. If it is, and you haven't lost any oil in 2500 miles, it is going to take a very long time before it is serious enough to warrant replacement. There is a fair amount of labor involved in this job, but the engine does not need to be disassembled. The rear main seal sits between the engine and the flywheel. Replacement requires dropping the transmission out of the car, removing the flywheel, and pressing in a new seal. Unless the engine is running on 2 cylinders and eating a quart of oil every 200 miles, there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO REBUILD IT when the seal is done. I think your "mechanic" is trying to make a couple of boat/house payments at your expense. Or maybe he has to pay off the mafia....
